Salesians Escalate Pedophile Presence in California – 2012

The Salesians of San Francisco, who were previously disgraced by holding the record for accused, convicted and sued priests in the Bay Area and northern state, have been amping up the the presence of their infamous clan once again.

The “troubled order” as writer Ron Russel described the notorious Salesian province of San Francisco in the San Francisco Weekly in October of 2006 , were entangled in a web of accusations, shuffling, coverups and denial; resulting from decades of ping-ponging sex abusers back and forth from churches, camps, schools and retreats.

A record number of Salesian priests names appeared on the molestation radar, and the Salesian provincials and damage control personnel scrambled to mitigate and dissolve the negative press and lawsuits. But what they could not dissolve what was the truth.

There are at least 23 accused local Salesian sex abusers named; and they are either admitted, convicted, sued, or named for various sex crimes against children.

Some of the named sex offenders are: Fr. Larry Lorenzoni, Fr. Richard Presenti, Fr. Bernard Dabenne, Fr. Steve Whelan, Bro. Sal Billante, Bro. Jesse Dominguez, Fr. Jim Miani, Fr. Harold Danielson, Bro. Mark Epperson, Fr. Mario Blanco, Bro. Anthony Juarez, Bro. Ernie Martinez, Fr. Emanual Palayo, Fr. Juan Sanchez, Bro. John Verhart, Fr. Fleming, Fr. Al Mengon, Bro. John Vas, Bro. Ralph Murguia, Bro. Dan Pacheco, Fr. Gerald Wurtz, Mr. Sam Vitone, and Mr. Rick Bonds.

In 2006, the Salesians made headlines by placing 5 out of 6 priests who were accused or convicted on their authoritative staff at the S.F. Franklin Street Provincial headquarters, another staggering and embarrassing record.

Some of them were removed, and the Salesians defiantly bucked public scrutiny by maintaining positions for the other accused predators. But in 2008, the Salesians were forced to settle a 20 million dollar lawsuit in California for several of their local clergy. After a disastrous and humiliating attempt to win a court case in superior court to defend the nest of accused sex offenders, the decision to litigate the case blew up in their face.

Meanwhile, in the East Bay Area, the Salesians spent an estimated five million dollars fighting just one case alone for sex abuser pastor Fr. Steve Whelan, which lasted almost 6 years in litigation, and they lost by court jury trial. Fr. Whelan had been kept in ministry by Cardinal Levada, and had access to children at the St. Peter and Pauls grammar school in San Francisco the entire time. The Salesians appealed the lost court case several times, and lost the final appeal in High Appellate Court in late 2008.

Fast forward to the present time, and the Salesians are up to their old habits again, apparently forgetting the past, and the accused predators are gaining placement and notoriety as if nothing had ever happened.

As of July 1, 2012, the Salesian San Francisco Province now boasts the presence of 3 accused pedophiles on their website, still named as clergy, after they were named in  multi-million dollar suits that the Salesians have settled. Those clergy are: accused serial rapists Fr. Larry Lorenzoni, Fr. Gerald Wurtz, and Bro. Ernie Martinez.

Across town, at the infamous “house of the accused”, St. Peter and Pauls Church and grammar school, the Salesians boast the name of the Parochial Vicar – accused molester Fr. Harold Danielson.

Further south of the City, at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, is the Pastor, Fr. Al Mengon, another Salesian priest who was named in court documents as an accused sex offender. Fr. Mengon also has the audacity to be listed as holding the position as a member of the Board of Directors at St. Francis Catholic High School.

But the most outrageous Salesian debauchery must certainly be the spokesperson chosen for the “blood of Christ” itself. Fr. Steve Whelan, whom I can personally say is a child rapist who was found liable by a court jury trial in a civil case, speaks for the purity of “sacramental wine” in a currently viewed tv documentary. The documentary lists Whelan as a Reverand, and is filmed at the St. Peter and Pauls Cathedral in San Francisco.

As I am the person who sued this child rapist and won the case, I can attest to the debased conduct of Whelan and his nest of pedophiles without reservation.

In conclusion, the number of accused Salesian rapists and child sex abusers now known to be back in positions in the local North Cal clergy arena is six.

Just like back in the “good old days.”

The Salesians have always been known to be record holders when it comes to boldness and placement of accused child predators, despite any public opinion of recklessness. And the Catholic hierarchy’s stance on this debauchery?

Probably, and historically – “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.”

  1. B U S T E D!

  2. Yes, it keeps getting worse!! They haven’t learned a thing.

  3. Do you expect them to lean? The clever ones have not been caught. The devious one still run the show. As Richard Sipe writes,

“I repeat what I said in 1992: “Difficult as it is to accept, we are certain that the hierarchical and power structures beneath the surface of dioceses and religious societies form the essence of a secret world that selects, cultivates, supports, and will continue to produce and protect child abusers within the ranks of the Catholic clergy. These hidden forces are elements far more dangerous to the sexual health and welfare of Christ’s Church than those already identified”.”

Again–“a secret world that selects, cultivates, supports, and will continue to produce and protect child abusers… These hidden forces” remain in place as you read these words.

    • Richard Sipe knows all about the evil that the RCC is capable of dispersing. You’re right – I did not expect them to learn at all, it was some wierd kind of wishful thinking.

  5. Keep NAMING THEM & SHAMING them Joey!

You should seriously consider approaching the networks and offer to host a program similar to John Walsh’s ‘America’s Most Wanted’. John Walsh turned his pain into a crusade and you could do likewise. The networks are always looking for innovative ways in which to boost their ratings and since reality programs are so popular today, it’s sure to be a hit! The program could be titled ‘Priests that Prey’, and would specifically and exclusively profile priests with credible allegations of child abuse. A photo of the predator priest could be flashed on the screen, along with their last known address / whereabouts. Many abusive priests remain at large and on the lamb, but that is not commonly known, as this too is a well-guarded secret of the RC “church”. In the interest of public safety, these sexual predators who hide behind clerical collars should be named and shamed once and for all! As host, you could issue a plea urging the perp-priest to turn himself in.

Exposing their abuse/criminal record will alert parents to the continuing threats these men pose to children. The Roman Catholic “church” continues to cover up the crimes of their priests and has proven time and time again they cannot be trusted in these solemn matters. They have consistently demonstrated they value their interests and their imagined good image, along with the protection of their own above the safety and welfare of children. Such a program would send them a clear message that they are being watched and their activities are being closely monitored!

    • Thanks June. I would love to expose the evil wrongdoings and placement of these pedophiles in places that enable them to have access to unsuspecting kids.
It is in the interest of public safety, but they behave as though they are above the law, and above the
duty to protect the innocent. I do not think the crisis in California re: “the multi-billion dollar lawsuits” have made a difference.

      • That’s because aberrant sexual behaviour is the model the bishops set for their priest understudies. They both sanction and practice sexual depravity themselves. They set the standard and the priests (who don’t know any better) think it is perfectly acceptable and normal to do likewise! Sexual perversion is thus the norm in RC hierarchy circles and so the pedophile epidemic will continue to rage in the unholy Roman Catholic “church”!

        As Richard Sipe explains:

“This sexual aberration is not generated from the bottom up – that is only from unsuitable candidates – but from the top down – that is from the sexual behaviors of superiors, even bishops and cardinals.
Bishop Thomas Lyons, now deceased, who was an Auxiliary in the Archdiocese of Washington D.C. groomed, seduced, and sexually abused a boy from the time he was seven years old until he was 17. When that boy grew into manhood he in turn abused his own child and young relatives. When I asked him about his actions he said to me, “I thought it was natural. Father (Lyons) told me a priest showed him this when he was growing up.” A pattern was perpetuated for at least four generations.

Abbot John Eidenschink of St. John’s Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota sexually abused some of his young monks during confession and spiritual direction. He admitted this behavior in regard to two of the monks I interviewed. They described the behavior in disturbingly graphic detail. Older monks that I interviewed told me that they knew that John’s Novice Master was inappropriately affectionate with him during his two years as a novice. More than a dozen of the monks of this monastery have been credibly accused of abuse of minors while Abbot Eidenschink was promoted to President of his Monastic Congregation, the American Cassinese.

While I was Adjunct Professor at a Pontifical Seminary, St. Mary’s Baltimore (1972-1984) a number of seminarians came to me with concerns about the behavior of Theodore E. McCarrick, then bishop of Metuchen, New Jersey. It has been widely known for several decades that Bishop/Archbishop now Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick took seminarians and young priests to a shore home in New Jersey, sites in New York, and other places and slept with some of them. He
established a coterie of young seminarians and priests that he encouraged to call him “Uncle Ted.” I have his correspondence where he referred to these men as being “cousins” with each other.”

Article: Open Letter of author Richard Sipe to Benedict XVI

        • It is truly the model for the understudies. Puppets can not think for themselves, except when it comes to molestation, and when that happens the hierarchy covers for the puppets, like thier superiors did for them years ago. And so on down the line. The only corrections that are taking place, is the that the twisted coverups have become more sophisticated.
Then of course there is the molestation mentioned by Sipe ; of seminary students by the older priests, who train them to be molesters as well.

  6. Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State, is a Salesian. He also served under Pope Benedict in the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, ( Holy Office of the Inquistion) the agency from which Cardinal William Levada is now retiring. Bertone is fully aware of the Salesian presence in San Francisco and the pedophile influence within its ranks. Indeed, none are more fully aware of the promotion of pedophile clergy, Salesian and otherwise, than Bertone, Ratzinger and Levada.

Keep writing, Joey, and heartfelt thanks for all you do to expose the darkness of this group and the support you give to so many.

    • Bertone is truly an angry man, probably induced by the negative conduct of the saesians around the globe, and the press they have recieved concerning their abhorrent behavior. BTW, there is a new Cardinal for the CDF, Levada retired today.

  7. Good job naming and identifying the monsters! Your bright light of exposure uncovers their dark nests of crime.

  8. Joey, Fr. Richard Presenti deserves a second chance.

    • Haha. Joey Madison.

Presenti already used up his second chance, a long time ago, back in the 60’s. he’s hundreds of chances behind now.

  9. PS: I now wonder how far back this goes.
